The recognition of Jerusalem as a capital of Israel is a threat for peace in the Middle East, says Morocco

Following reports, of a possible announcement by the United States of America of a recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the transfer of the American Embassy to the Holy City, Moroccan King Mohammed VI had a telephone conversation with the President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas, Eurasia Diary reports.
On this occasion, the King Muahmmed VI, as Sovereign of the Kingdom of Morocco, Amir Al-Muaminin and Chairman of the Al Quds Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, reiterated the strong and constant solidarity of the Kingdom with the Palestinian brotherly People in defense of its just cause and its legitimate rights, especially regarding the status of Al Quds Al Sharif.
Moroccan King has also expressed his strong condemnation of any action likely to compromise the multi-confessional character of the Holy City, or alter its legal and political status. For his part, the Palestinian President and while welcoming the role and the action of the King, deplored that such an inappropriate initiative was on the agenda of the US Administration.
He expressed the deep concern of the Palestinian Authority as to its serious consequences for the Middle East peace process and for the security and stability in the region.
The King Muhammed VI and the Palestinian President agreed to maintain direct contact and permanent consultations on this issue, as well as close co-ordination between the two governments, in order to jointly identify the steps and the actions to be taken.
