Volkswagen Group enjoys big sales gains

When you have multiple brands its always pleasing for the parent company when they all find additional commercial success.

That was almost the case for the Volkswagen Group in May.

Sales data shows every brand under the Volkswagen umbrella enjoyed increased sales in the month, except Audi.

The German sports/luxury brand delivered 159,600 vehicles in the month and that number was 2.8% down on the same month last year.

But that was the only negative Volkswagen experienced in the month.

As already reported, Volkswagen passenger car sales jumped ahead 3.5%, Volkswagen commercial vehicle sales climbed 7.8% and there were even stronger gains for the truck brands – MAN and Scania.

Of the other brands in the Volkswagen portfolio in May, SEAT increased sales by 11.9%, Porsche sales jumped ahead 10.4%, and Skoda sales were ahead of the same month in 2016 by 2.4%.

In total, Volkswagen delivered 898,700 vehicles to customers in the month, a rate 3.1% up on the same month last year.

While the brand’s sales data shows sales across the first five months of the year were up only marginally (0.1%) with a total of 4,234,900.

In Australia, last month the VFACTS data shows Volkswagen sales (passenger and commercials) were up 11.3%, Skoda sales were flat, and Audi sales followed the global trend and receded by 4.4%.

Porsche experienced sales growth though, albeit only marginally, with a 1.4% bump.

While Scania (+139.0%) and MAN (+114.3%) were big winners in the truck sales race.
