Frightening moment a brand new 'iPhone 7' explodes in a shop worker's hand - VIDEO

The moment a smartphone, believed to be a brand new iPhone 7, exploded in a man's hand was captured by CCTV footage.

The video, filmed in an unknown location, shows two men casually talking in a phone repair shop. One of the men is scrolling through his phone.

Without warning there is a huge burst of light as the phone bursts into a ball of flames in the shop workers hand.

He is forced to throw the burning device to the floor while his friend stamps out the flames.

The phone appeared to be on charge just before it exploded.

The video was posted on video sharing website Flyheight with the caption: ' CCTV footage allegedly shows the new Apple iPhone 7 explode while in a man's hand.

'One guy is busy playing with his iPhone 7 and suddenly the phone explodes and catches fire.'

Exploding iPhones were reported in China last month and Apple has confirmed that the iPhone 6S has had battery issues. A replacement programme for affected customers is currently ongoing.

In December Apple released a statement about several iPhone 6s in China catching fire and said external factors were to blame.

A spokeswoman said: 'The units we've analyzed so far have clearly shown that external physical damage happened to them which led to the thermal event.'

She added that Apple was widening its investigation into the power-down issue.

An exploding iPhone 7, which was released in September last year, was reported last month by a student in New Jersey who claimed the device caught fire in his back pocket.

People with concerns are asked to contact Apple.
